HELLO MY NAME IS RED "KIDS WITH GUNS"

LIVE AND UNPLUGGED FROM THE RAILROAD TRACKS

Share

The guys from Hello My Name Is Red have been running around town doing guerrilla performances of their own for nearly two years now, hooking their amps up to car batteries and playing wherever the can find and audience, whether it be down on Venice Beach or outside the Palladium on the first night of the Pixies Doolittle tour. When they contacted us a few weeks back, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drag them out - sans car battery - to do a gorillacoustic performance for us.

Listening to their album “Left With the Mess” (recorded for a mere hundred bucks), Hello My Name Is Red reminds me more of some of the post-punk bands found on Seattle’s Sub Pop’s label back in the early 90s than your typical SoCal punk band. Stripped down but never quite straight forward with more than a few catchy tracks, their album is definitely worth checking out... especially when you can get it for free right now by going to their MySpace page.

Here’s what the band had to say about their favorite books, places to play and more:

GORILLACOUSTIC: What does the world need to know about Hello My Name is Red?

HELLO MY NAME IS RED: That we're a guerilla punk band testing boundaries.

GA: You're name is a reference to Bukowski's "Ham on Rye", so I'm guessing you're big readers. Who are some of your favorite authors?

HMNR: Karl Marx's communist manifesto through the spirit of the cuban revolution, Mark Twain, Orson Welles, Jose Arguelles...and the detailed sketches of Todd Mcfarlane.

GA: You guys have been doing your own guerrilla performances for a while. Where are some of the more interesting places you've played?

HMNR: In front of the palladium for the opening night of the pixies doolittle reunion tour and these train tracks that nearly killed us.

GA: Ever been shut down by the cops while performing?

HMNR: Nope, we're quicker than the average man in bed.

GA: Any particular reason you chose to play on the railroad tracks?

HMNR: Because momma always said not to.

GA: If you could do another gorillacoustic performance anywhere else in the world, where would you do it?

HMNR: On the top of the Mayan temples.

GA: Rock, Paper or Scissors?

HMNR: GOD MODE!!
